FreshPeek, Inc. | |  | Helping others achieve their dreams and aspirations in life is my passionate desire. But how could I merge 23 years of software development with helping people achieve their careers and goals in life? One year later, the answer came to me. The Bigelow Dream Foundation (now the FreshPeek Foundation) was formed as a non-profit along with the Vote My Dream online community, designed to develop resources and award grants to its members.
In the process of spending 12-16 hours/day over the next 6 months developing the websites, writing business plans, financial projections, people volunteering to join the team, developing out the concepts and trying to raise both non-profit and investment capital, my personal funds ran out and I was completely broke. I was now experiencing the same difficulties I wanted to help others through.
My son joined me on the quest and we moved to Colorado and camped while continuing to pursue the dream to keep our expenses way down. He is a tremendous inspiration and without him, I simply may have given up. Later, my daughter joined us and it has become a family business.
A banker and angel investors showed about $500,000 worth of interest. This inspired us so much that we shifted gears from a non-profit to a for-profit and began seeking $1.5 million. It became evident that the investment arena goal was a 3 year exit strategy with maximum profits at whatever cost. We had a hard choice, keep the heart behind the dream or make a ton of money?
We chose to keep the heart. This is why FreshPeek.com now exists, to raise the money ourselves. But what turned out to be great is that our members share in 50% of the revenue and receive a monthly income as well. Everybody wins and we still have our integrity…How awesome is that? |
