Christopher Bigelow -
My Human Interest Story:
When first meeting Christopher Bigelow, owner of Human Element Media, I was surprised by his extremely youthful appearance. As we introduce ourselves and begin talking, he chuckles and says; “You must be sitting there thinking, who is this young kid, and is he for real?” The fact that he looks like a kid in his teens, rather than a man in his mid-twenties, doesn’t keep Chris from getting down to business. Along with his clean cut, baby face look, comes his fresh approach at building a company from the ground up; a passion of his since he was younger. Chris’s specialty is marketing and managing all forms of social media for small to medium sized businesses.
Born in Boulder Colorado, Chris and his family spent his earlier school years there, and then ventured to California before coming to South Florida in 1992. He attended and graduated Atlantic High School in Delray Beach, Florida. Chris has grown up watching his father make his own way as a freelance Senior Software and Website Developer. Chris always watched people working for themselves and always knew, that was what he wanted. Chris shares that when his teen years came to an end and he found himself in his twenties, his days of “partying” were coming to a close. He was ready to begin focusing on a career for himself. “My dad took me under his wing,” he states matter-of-factly. When asked what he has learned from his father, Bigelow’s hands flutter and he stutters oh so slightly. I visualized the wheels turn in his mind while he thinks of his dad. He finally states, “I have learned so much from him, I can’t verbalize it!”
Then he continues, “My dad taught me self respect, good morals and, how to recognize insecurities and fear. He taught me that fear is something we make up in our heads, and if we know that; then we can control it. He taught me about relationships and their importance.” Bigelow’s home office is in Delray Beach, Florida. He states with confidence; “Its’s here, (in the Delray area) that I have friends and family that I can trust with my life; and that’s important!”
With his focus on running his own successful business, Chris endeavored in the concept of Social Media and has a deeper understanding of what it is than most. When asked why he chose Social Media as the focal point of his business, he responds; “I tried Network Marketing for a time. I found myself spending enormous amounts of time without a beneficial financial outcome.” He explains he wants to get away from sales and concentrate on “selling a really good service.” Chris recognizes competition amongst the Social Media management industry and welcomes the challenge to stand out from the rest.
With so many businesses in need of exposure he is confident there is enough of a demand for many people in this field to be successful. Chris talks about himself as being “smarter than the average bear.” “I’m bright enough, smart enough, and I’m unique,” he says with a huge grin. He wants to give his clients what they need, whether he can provide it personally, or outsource it through fellow businesses and networking. He is willing to go the extra mile. “I want the wow!” he exclaims. During our conversation, I can feel his positivity and energy as he shreds a drinking straw wrapper while he talks about what is important for him to give to his clients. The number one thing to Chris is the person he represents. He continues to say, “Aside from how vast the Internet is, I still believe that the most important thing missing is the human element.” That’s what he wants to create for each of his clients, that will set him apart from all the others. The mention of money seems to be an after-thought. He wants enough to live his life but confesses; “It’s more about the people.”
During our two hour chat, I find myself looking at a sincere guy that believes in himself and his business. In turn he wants to develop his knowledge of Social Media marketing and his affinity for people; so he can help other businesses grow and be successful. Working hard and loving what you do for a living may sound like the American dream, but to Chris Bigelow, it is the human dream. |

My Blog
| Our first dinner !! December 14, 2007 | | | | | View all blogs for this member | My Category: | Submit a Comment | | This is my first real blog about Freshpeek. My father and I have being working on a fresh vision for people looking to get face to face interaction with like minded people in business. Our vision was to create a free platform to empower entreperneures anyware with very little effort and cost. The idea has being consepshual for a long time but last night was a mager milestone in development. We held our first real test dinner, just to see if people would show up and take to the idea, then leave feeling like they personaly benifited. The dinner was a successs and a lot of fun, 3 people showed up out of the blue, hearing about us through flyers and craigslist. We implimented a very simple format to conduct the meeting that we desined and that is still being developed. We eat dinner, every one intruduced them selfs talked about there business or idea and what they are struggling with. Then others gave new ideas and feed back, we found that people have a hard time seeing themselfs and need out side input from others to further develope there idea. That is the whole vision of Freshpeek. I'm excited to see what the people do with the idea. Video and testamonie, will be uploaded in the coming weeks, along with press and local support. Thanks for reading.
